Kiera Sanderson is a performance artist and choreographer based in Leicestershire, England. She holds a first-class honours degree in Dance & Choreography from Falmouth University and has since worked as a freelance dancer for several UK and international companies - Yskynna Vertical Dance, Neon Dance and Duck-Billed Company.
Kiera's practice takes influence from varied forms of visual art; particularly surrealist film, painting, and writing – revealing ordinary subjects to be something familiar yet uncanny and absurd.
Collaboration enriches Kiera's work, most recently in Bangkok Thailand, where she delivered contemporary dance workshops and classes alongside practitioner Anand Wongpaisan, engaging professional and pre-professional dancers. In 2022 Kiera worked with local Thai creative practitioners in a residency at Yellow Lane supported by People of Ari, creating the multi-disciplinary performance work 'Instinct of Play'.
Most recently, Kiera has been working in France as a performer for Duck-Billed Company in their new creation 'Plantasia'. The work premiered in May 2023 at Théâtre de l’Uchronie in Lyon, followed by 8 more exclusive shows. The company then embarked on an 8-week film shoot in Lisiére, France to create a cinematic version of the piece entitled 'Plantasia: Director's Cut'.
Kiera is currently working on a solo performance project inspired by the 1934 book 'Cinnamon Shops' by Polish writer Bruno Shulz. The work deals with memory, grief, loneliness and desperation, presenting them in an absurd yet charmingly surreal manner.
